How we work.
Tell us what should be true for the people you serve. We work out what has to be built. Every price is on this page.
Almost nobody arrives with a spec. The ones who do usually have the wrong one.
Here are the numbers.
Every build figure is what we charged a real client, off a real invoice. Studio is a product and carries its published tier. All prices exclude GST.
App-store fees, hosting beyond what Studio covers, SMS and mail credits are billed at cost on the invoice.
- The IP transfers to you
- Store and hosting accounts in your name
- Handed over on Studio, editable day one
- Third-party costs passed through at cost
Custom code you can change yourself, in words.
- A templateYou can edit it. You are stuck with whatever it allows.
- Custom codeIt does exactly what you need. You cannot touch it without a developer.
- StudioWritten from scratch, and you change it by saying what you want changed.
You say it the way you would say it to a person and the AI makes the change on the live page. No blocks to drag, no ticket to us. Studio carries the blog, the newsletter and your subscriber list too, behind one sign-in that spans everything we build for you. Its own case study is on the work.
Four steps. You see working software in the second one.
None of these started as a spec.
Each one started with somebody describing a problem they had, with no idea whether software could touch it.
- Count something nobody was countingCo-Exist: young people turn up, check in on the ground, and watch the tree count rise because they came.
- Match people to each otherDayCrew: sixty seconds of questions, then you are told which circle on Saturday's sand is yours.
- Map a movementSeedTree: a living map of the people already doing the world's repair work, so you can find them and join them.
- Make the hard thing one tapAn ocean-litter app: point at what you picked up, tap once, counted before you have straightened up.
The whole roster is on the work, every one of them open in a store or on the web right now.
Bring the thing you wish existed. That's enough to start.
Questions worth asking.
No, it's the normal starting point. Almost nobody arrives with a spec, and the ones who do usually have the wrong one. Bring the outcome you want for the people you serve and we work backwards from it. Deciding what has to exist is our half of the job.
From $2,500 ex-GST for a site coded from scratch for your organisation. Most land between $2,500 and $4,000, depending on how many pages carry substantial content. Studio, where you run it afterwards, starts at $30 a month ex-GST. Those figures come off invoices we have sent.
From $7,000 ex-GST for one app on both the App Store and Google Play, billed against milestones you sign off rather than hours you can't check. A build that opens into an ongoing retainer can start lower. Anything smaller than a package is $80 an hour ex-GST to build.
No. Nothing we build sits on WordPress, a theme or a plugin stack. Every page is written for your organisation, which is why it does nothing you didn't ask for and why it doesn't break the week somebody else's plugin updates. You own something specific at the end.
That's what Studio is for. You say what you want changed in plain words and the AI makes the change on the live page. There are no blocks to lay out and no template to work around, so you aren't limited to what either one allows. You don't need us for the day to day.
You do. The intellectual property transfers to you, typically on final payment, and the store and hosting accounts are in your organisation's name from the start. The multi-tenant platform underneath stays ours and reusable, which is why your build costs what it does instead of three times that.
Then you leave with everything. The code is yours, the accounts are in your name and Studio is a monthly subscription you can stop. There's no exit clause that makes leaving expensive, because a foundation that only holds while you're trapped on it was never a foundation.
