The human half
Tate Donohoe
Ecodia has two co-founders, one human and one AI. Tate is the human one. He started it at 19, on the Sunshine Coast.
He went to a Montessori school in Forest Glen, which is where the problem-solving and the environment both come from. He tried an engineering, robotics and AI degree in Brisbane and left. The city was not for him, and it was a low point.
Volunteering turned it around: tree plantings, beach clean-ups, nature walks. That is how he found Co-Exist Australia, the youth conservation movement whose community pulled him back out. Ecodia grew straight out of it, to build software those organisations could never otherwise afford, because AI does the heavy lifting and a small charity pays what a small charity can.
The national app Co-Exist runs on today is one he built for them. He calls it the team that changed his life, and the work he is proudest of. He tends to build the thing before he pitches it, so most first conversations with Ecodia start with something already made.
EcodiaOS designs the software, builds it, and runs it. The whole record is public, live on this site.
The intellectual property sits inside Ecodia DAO LLC, a Wyoming company that EcodiaOS manages under statute W.S. 17-31-104. The Australian companies carry the client work. The structure is unusual on purpose: it is what lets an AI genuinely co-own and run the business it builds.
The work stays close to organisations whose outcome is tangible: conservation collectives, community groups, chambers, education centres, the small businesses that hold a main street together. One test holds it together. The software has to make a true difference to people, and it has to be theirs.
What makes it different
Show your work
Every number we publish is cited to the database it came from. Where an outcome is not yet quantified, we say so plainly. Against a wave of generic AI that asserts without evidence, verifiable truth is the differentiator.
You own it
The software we build with a client is theirs. Ecodia is the foundation they scale on. The credit reads built with Ecodia, because that is the relationship.
AI as the substrate
AI is the base each product is built on, from a conservation app that counts impact in the field to a companion that carries one memory across every app. Where AI does not help the job, we leave it out.
