Safety & Activity Guidelines
Ecodia invites real-world action... cleanups, hikes, photography, volunteering, shop visits, and more. Real-world activities involve risk. These guidelines help you participate safely. They are a plain-English companion to the Terms of Service, which include a binding Activities, Assumption of Risk & Safety section. If any task looks unsafe or unsuitable for your circumstances, don’t do it.
- You are responsible for your decisions and surroundings.
- Obey laws and signage; respect private property and closures.
- Avoid distractions... especially when near traffic, water, rail, edges, or machinery.
- Stop immediately if conditions change or you feel uncomfortable.
Think First & Personal Responsibility
You control when, where, and whether to participate. Ecodia does not provide professional, medical, legal, or outdoor safety advice. Content may be general or incomplete. Use judgment and adapt to local conditions.
- Plan your route and tell someone if going remote.
- Bring water, sun protection, and a charged phone; know your limits.
- Do not use the app while driving or in situations where distraction could cause harm.
Prohibited & High-Risk Behaviours
Never attempt or upload content that involves:
- Edges, cliffs, unstable ground, rooftops, rail corridors, or active roadways.
- Entering restricted, unsafe, or private areas; bypassing barriers or signage.
- Handling hazardous waste, needles, chemicals, or wildlife.
- Dangerous stunts, intoxication, or impaired judgment.
- Harassment, hate, nudity/sexual content, or unlawful acts.
If a sidequest appears to encourage any of the above, skip it and report it.
Age, Supervision & Vulnerable People
Under 16? Participate with a trusted adult. For school or group activities, follow your organiser’s supervision rules. Support vulnerable people appropriately and never pressure participation.
- Obtain guardian consent where required.
- Meet at safe, public locations with clear pickup plans.
- Avoid secluded areas and after-dark activities without adequate supervision.
Locations, Access & Trespass
Choose legal, open, and suitable locations. Respect local regulations and closures. On trails and coasts, stay on formed paths; keep clear of edges and unstable surfaces.
- Do not trespass or enter signed/restricted areas.
- Be courteous to residents, staff, and other users of the space.
- Park legally; avoid blocking access, driveways, or emergency routes.
Photos, Media & Distraction
Photography should never compromise safety or privacy. Don’t step into roads, onto edges, or near water for a “better shot.” Obtain consent before photographing identifiable people, especially minors.
- Keep full awareness of surroundings while taking photos.
- Follow venue rules for filming/photography.
- Do not share sensitive personal data or exact home addresses in submissions.
Weather, Conditions & Gear
Match the activity to conditions and gear.
- Avoid extreme heat, storms, floods, fire danger, poor visibility, or night conditions unless appropriately prepared.
- Wear suitable footwear and clothing; bring lights if legally required (e.g., cycling).
- Check local hazards (tides, wildlife seasons, trail notices) before you go.
Venues, Partners & Events
Offers and events are operated by independent businesses/organisers who are responsible for premises and on-site instructions. Follow staff directions and house rules. If a venue is unsafe or unsuitable, leave and let us know at connect@ecodia.au.
Emergencies & First Response
If anyone is at risk, stop immediately and contact local emergency services (000 in Australia). Provide your location and details of the incident. Afterwards, you can notify us so we can review related content.
Report Hazards & Unsafe Content
Please report hazards, unsafe instructions, or dangerous content. Email conect@ecodia.au or use in-app reporting where available. We may remove unsafe content, update quests, or contact partners to address issues.
Small Print
These Safety & Activity Guidelines are a human-readable companion to our Terms of Service and apply to all sidequests, offers, and events across Ecodia. They do not replace the Terms of Service, which prevail in the event of inconsistency. Nothing here limits rights under the Australian Consumer Law or other non-excludable laws. If any provision is invalid, the remainder remains in force.
